Church Terraces

Along the Capdepera coast there is a series of watch towers which were built between the 12th and 16th centuries as a defence system.

The earliest watch towers have disappeared and the current towers date from the 16th century.

The system of signals and codes consisted of the connection of a series of warnings, sent from the point of the sighting of the enemy, tower by tower, towards Palma, in order to organise defence and to send help to any point of the island that was attacked.

In the 16th and 17th centuries visual signals were sent using smoke during the day and fire at night.
